Makeup Organization – Detailed Pics

Depending on who you talk to, my makeup collection is big. To others, it’s small. No matter what size it is, it was messy and unorganized. I could never find exactly what I was looking for and it drove me nuts. I’d tried everything to cut down on the clutter, but finally broke down and bought the IKEA ALEX drawers allowing my dream of organization to become a reality.

In case you are wondering, the dimensions for the Alex drawers are:
Width: 26 3/8 ”
Depth: 18 7/8 ”
Height: 26 “

YSL Mascara Volume Effet Faux Cils Shocking

YSL-faux-cilisI may not have been born with extra long lashes, but at least with this mascara, I can pretend. For $30 USD, I bought this from Sephora in Deep Black. As you can see from the picture above, while my lashes are not the shortest, they could use some help. YSL Shocking mascara is unique in that it moisturizes your lashes so that when you take your mascara off, your lashes don’t feel stiff and brittle. The mascara is quite wet and can clump if you don’t take your time. With one application, you see an immediate difference in my lashes. The smell isn’t overwhelming or overpowering and my lashes appear longer and thicker, saving me the hassle of having to wear false lashes.

What it is:
A mascara that exaggerates lashes with excess volume from every angle.

What it does:
Exclusive to YSL, the amplified helix brush provides instant volume to the lashes. The slim brush design allows for perfect control and precision and the off-center twist enhances length and curl. The beautifully creamy formula with pro-vitamin B5 coats each lash evenly, creating a thick and lustrous fringe with a wet look.

Review Recap:

  • Price: $30 USD
  • Availability: Sephora or wherever YSL is sold.
  • Selection: You can find this in 4 different colors – deep black, black bronze, sea black, cherry black. Also available in regular and waterproof.  •
  • Overall: While the price is around the average for other designer brands, it’s a lot to swallow for a mascara. The product is much wetter than I remembered from the last time I purchased it, and if you aren’t careful it will clump, making your eyes look a mess. When applied properly, the mascara does everything it claims it will do, lengthening and volumizing your lashes. The price and the “wetness” of this product definitely take away from a perfect score, but because I’m familiar with the product, it’s still something I would buy again.

CIBU Lotus Flower Touch of Tan Moisturizer

Since moving back to the Old Dominion, I get my hair cut at Bubbles. I love my stylist because she truly understands what I want done, even when I described it poorly, and she wasn’t put off by my eccentric pink hair when I first walked in.

Now that I’m growing out my pixie cut, I went to get it shaped so it would sit better as it grew. Well, I spent 2 hours at the gym before my appointment and I drank probably close to 11 cups of water while I was there (I was half way through bottle number 4 which holds 3 cups of water), so needless to say, I needed to use the bathroom when I arrived.

Yes, you read that correctly, I went to get my hair cut after going to the gym. Yes, I looked like a hot mess. No, I didn’t care and thanks to my wonderful BBW body splash, I didn’t smell like sweaty death, so back to my story.

I used the restroom before she got started and when I washed my hands, they had Cibu Lotus Flower as the available soap. It might have been 40 degrees outside, but wow, this stuff was take-me-to-the-beach heavenly! The light coconut scent smelled so amazing, I couldn’t deal. I seriously thought about this stuff the entire rest of my hair cut. Sadly, at checkout I couldn’t find the product because I was ready to buy it. Luckily, the Touch of Tan Moisturizer is just as great.

With this, you not only smell like you’re at the beach, but it slowly enhances your skin’s natural color, acting as a self tanner. I’m so crazy pale, this is perfect for me. My body and face are soft, hydrated, and glowing thanks to the power of this bottle ($12 USD). This lotion is loaded with Argan oil and acai berry which contain fatty acids, vitamin E, Omega 6 & 9 necessary to restore your skin vibrancy and softness and coconut and olive fruit oils condition your skin.

Katy Perry Eylure

Something I have always admired about Katy Perry is her fearless use of dramatic colors and lashes. She has always had gorgeous colored hair, be it blue, pink, or black. I already fell in love with eylure lashes, but when I found out they teamed up with Katy Perry, I knew I couldn’t wait to try them.

While on vacation in ATL, I ended up going to an ULTA and picking up the Oh, Honey lashes even though I knew a set of lashes were on the way from one of the PR firms I work with. I wore them the rest of the trip and I absolutely love them. They are perfect for everyday use – less dramatic than say the Oh My! lashes or the Cool Kitty lashes. Inside the box is a cute little oval sticker in the same font as the name on the box – Sweetie Pie, Oh, Honey!, etc. Free advertising for any student’s notebook, laptop, etc. Very smart marketing!

They are available at Ulta for an additional $1 over regular eylure lashes ($6.99 USD). I am sure that is to pay for the Katy Perry adverts, but in reality an unnecessary cost (and the only thing I could find to hold against the product).

I love this brand and I will definitely use them over and over and over. I hope you take a try at these lashes – if you get some, tell me in the comments, which one’s you would try. I love them and have started wearing them to work on a daily basis.

Revlon Lashes

The Easiest Lashes to Apply…

When you think of false lashes, Revlon may not be the brand that comes to mind. For most people they think of Ardell, or ELF, or MUFE, or…or…or…

For a very reasonable price, you can try on lashes that are non-irritating on the eyes and very durable. Not only can you choose between a variety of shapes, volumes, and lengths, you can choose whether or not you want to use glue.

No glue? Then how does it stick?

There are a few lashes that are being offered as self-adhesive, which means they are latex-free for you allergy sufferers. They are so sticky, I was able to even reapply my lashes after I removed them. If you prefer the glue to the self-adhesive stickies that come attached to the eyelash container, you won’t be disappointed. Generally I use the DUO eyelash glue, even when the eyelashes come with glue. However, I wanted to try the product in its entirety to give a truly fair review. In terms of lash glue, I will admit, I like my DUO lash better. I like it better than the lash glue that comes with the Ardell lashes as well. I didn’t at first, but now I am used to it. The glue did what it was supposed to do and kept the lashes attached.

Overall, I think these lashes are amazing. The variety alone makes them a keeper, and when you consider the price and the fact that if you handle them properly you get more than one use out of them, Revlon has found themselves a good product.

Reviewing L’Oreal Lineur Intense – Carbon Black

Reviewing L’Oreal Lineur Intense

So I totally suck at applying liquid liner – or I did! That is until I bought this product. I am trying really hard to find products that I can make a part of my daily routine. Everyone made a huge deal about the MAC Penultimate liner that came out recently, but I am trying to not spend so much money on MAC right now.

Product: L’Oreal Lineur Intense – Carbon Black
Price: $8.50
Brand: L’Oreal
Where to Buy: CVS, Walgreens, Target, Wal*Mart – anywhere L’Oreal is sold
Rating: 5 out of 5 NAT’s

This liner is AWESOME! I can’t believe how easy and smooth this stuff applies. If you have ever wanted to have winged out liner for your favorite pinup look then look no further. You don’t have to pull your eye to make this apply smoothly. I noticed I still do out of habit, but I just put my hand there more than actually pull.

The staying power, once dry is amazing. In the mornings it’s always windy in Southern MD and the cold of this winter makes my eyes tear up. Since wearing this liner, I am not having to worry about it going anywhere.

In other words…GO GET IT! If I can make this work then SO CAN YOU!

Questions…Because I’m Curious…
  1. What type of liner do you prefer (liquid, gel, cream, pencil)
  2. What is favorite color and brand of go-to liner for everyday use?
