Makeup Organization – Detailed Pics

Depending on who you talk to, my makeup collection is big. To others, it’s small. No matter what size it is, it was messy and unorganized. I could never find exactly what I was looking for and it drove me nuts. I’d tried everything to cut down on the clutter, but finally broke down and bought the IKEA ALEX drawers allowing my dream of organization to become a reality.

In case you are wondering, the dimensions for the Alex drawers are:
Width: 26 3/8 ”
Depth: 18 7/8 ”
Height: 26 “

CIBU Lotus Flower Touch of Tan Moisturizer

Since moving back to the Old Dominion, I get my hair cut at Bubbles. I love my stylist because she truly understands what I want done, even when I described it poorly, and she wasn’t put off by my eccentric pink hair when I first walked in.

Now that I’m growing out my pixie cut, I went to get it shaped so it would sit better as it grew. Well, I spent 2 hours at the gym before my appointment and I drank probably close to 11 cups of water while I was there (I was half way through bottle number 4 which holds 3 cups of water), so needless to say, I needed to use the bathroom when I arrived.

Yes, you read that correctly, I went to get my hair cut after going to the gym. Yes, I looked like a hot mess. No, I didn’t care and thanks to my wonderful BBW body splash, I didn’t smell like sweaty death, so back to my story.

I used the restroom before she got started and when I washed my hands, they had Cibu Lotus Flower as the available soap. It might have been 40 degrees outside, but wow, this stuff was take-me-to-the-beach heavenly! The light coconut scent smelled so amazing, I couldn’t deal. I seriously thought about this stuff the entire rest of my hair cut. Sadly, at checkout I couldn’t find the product because I was ready to buy it. Luckily, the Touch of Tan Moisturizer is just as great.

With this, you not only smell like you’re at the beach, but it slowly enhances your skin’s natural color, acting as a self tanner. I’m so crazy pale, this is perfect for me. My body and face are soft, hydrated, and glowing thanks to the power of this bottle ($12 USD). This lotion is loaded with Argan oil and acai berry which contain fatty acids, vitamin E, Omega 6 & 9 necessary to restore your skin vibrancy and softness and coconut and olive fruit oils condition your skin.

OPI Black Cherry Chutney

Owners of this nail polish have a tendency to love and hate it. This includes myself. It appears almost black in some lights, but is actually a deep dark cherry purple color. There is a beautiful shimmer to it when you see it up close.

I noticed this polish was more of a pain to clean up then the others, an issue I contribute to the dark color. I also found myself using more than the usual number of coats, attempting to make my nails as dark as the bottle. However, I love this polish so none of that matters!

Maybelline Color Show Nail Lacquer

I’ve never been a fan of any of the drugstore nail polishes I’ve purchased in the past. Since Essie is owned by L’Oreal, which owns Maybelline, Lancome, and a few other beauty brands and I enjoy Essie polish, when I saw the bold green color on the end cap at my local Target, I simply had to buy it. When it cost only $2.99 USD for a bottle when I am accustomed to paying $8 USD + a bottle for OPI and Essie polishes, it was hard to buy only one.

I only purchased the one b/c I didn’t know how well it was going to work on my nails. Being nail painting impaired (as is demonstrated in the picture above), I didn’t know how well this product would apply, so I resisted all the other pretty colors Target had for me to choose from. To my surprise, the nail polish went on with ease, without streaks and quite thick. In one simple stroke, my entire nail was covered. The deep chartreuse color was obtained with only two coats on my nails. For some extra flash, I added with a sponge applicator some emerald green glitter to the tips of my nails.

Overall, I was pleasantly surprised with the quality of this polish compared to other drugstore brands I’ve purchased in the past. With the 40 different shades out there in Maybelline Color Show polish, I don’t think I will run out of different colors to try (for a while anyway). Of course, now that I know they are as great as they are, I want to pick one up every time I see them at Target.

With such a large variety, which is your favorite?

Review Recap:

  • Price: $2.99 USD – $3.99 USD (prices vary depending upon purchase location)
  • Availability: Available wherever Maybelline is sold and online at
  • Selection: 40 different shades to choose from
  • Overall: My first impression was that these are very different than any drugstore nail polish I’d used in the past. The formula seemed thicker, covering more of the nail in one coat than some of my more expensive nail polishes. There are a variety of colors to fit every personality, whether it’s bold and bright or natural nudes.

bye. bye. frizz.

This year, I decided to let my hair grow. I am very excited I did this because I love my hair long. However, one comment every stylist that has ever touched my hair has been, “WOW! Your hair is so thick!” My response is always the same: I laugh and nod and say, “I know.”

Having thick hair has major advantages, but one disadvantage is that when humidity is high, I resemble a fluffy puppy dog instead of a person! Luckily, I found a line that gets rid of this problem for me.

 bye bye frizz

“Clients love it when they leave the salon with a perfectly smooth sleek finish. We know they’d like to get that frizz-free look every day. bye.bye.Frizz is a frizzy girls dream since it not only removes frizz, it makes your hair so much easier to blow out and style. Plus, your hair will never feel softer or look shinier. Like we said… it’s a frizzy girls dream.”
– Marc Anthony Stylist Team

This entire line is available at your nearest ULTA (we are FINALLY getting one where I live now!) or your local drugstore. I’ve spent top dollar looking for hair products that will smooth out my thick mane only to discover the Marc Anthony line has exactly what I’m looking for and it won’t cost an arm, leg, or your first born child.

Not only did I use the shampoo and conditioner religiously, my daughter (her hair is thick and definitely as frizzy as mine) also used it. The smell is divine and it actually does what it says it’s going to do. Throw in the bonus of keratin being added to your hair – it’s a win win to use this line. The conditioner is perfect for detangling while the shampoo gives your hair a beautiful glossy shine.

If you’re hair isn’t frizzy, then smile because you are LUCKY! Have no fear, Marc Anthony offers a large variety of hair care products for every hair type. Stay tuned for more.

Genie in a Bottle

Every time I look at the now “old” packaging of the Urban Decay Primer Potion, cleverly duped UDPP, the Christina Aguilera lyrics to Genie In a Bottle start to escape my lips.

Not by choice, possibly the influence of the URBAN*DECAY, I have to fight the urge to break out into dance as I belt out the following:

If you wanna be with me, baby
There’s a price you pay
I’m a genie in a bottle
You gotta rub me the right way

The packaging was gorgeous, but as the lyrics suggested – it came with a price. In the beginning, everyone rubbed the packaging the right way, but as the product wore down, sure enough rubbing the right way became harder and harder.

Less than half of the product could be used before the container made it nearly next to impossible to use. Before URBAN*DECAY could say NO! NO! NO! women and men alike were taking their good kitchen knives to the container. I even made a video showing how I cut my UDPP in half. That’s how AMAZING this product is. YES! It’s so great, we’d risk cutting off our appendages to keep using it.

Finally, URBAN*DECAY caught on to all the pleas we made and came out with a new packaging. Now you get 25 mL more than the original packaging for about 25% more cost (new suggested retail is $45 USD). Honestly, price wise, I don’t mind. I am willing to pay for a product that is going to be easier to use and keeps my makeup in place all day long.

Thank you URBAN*DECAY for listening to the gripes, moans, and complaints of all of us. Your attention to detail is greatly appreciated! Now hurry and do this with the other UDPP’s you have out.

Will YOU buy this when your current UDPP runs out? I will!

MAC Opulash Mascara

Last week I did something I hadn’t done in quite a long time…I went haulin’! Celebrating the end of the school year (classroom teachers last day – not mine), I was exhausted and proud that I survived the first year in my new job. And what a year it was…

So I decided it was time to take a trip to Tyson’s Corner Mall in NOVA (my future home I have decided – I am up for the commute) and hit up the MAC and Lush. I was going to go to Sephora too, but lucky me, my mall opened a mini-Sephora inside of the JC Penney’s so I can stop there any ‘ole time I want!

I decided it was time to pamper myself and I needed a few necessities that I had run out of. While I was there, (I had the most amazing sales girl for a change at MAC – very helpful & full of compliments), I decided I was going to try out the Opulash. I hadn’t been following MAC’s new products of recent due to my unwillingness to buy anything in hopes of saving my beauty splurge funds for my weight loss goal (hello Louboutin’s – when I reach my next weight loss goal anyway) , but that went on the back burner so I could get some goodies! In that was the Opulash.

I purchased it for a few reasons:

One: I’m always on the lookout for new mascaras.
Two: The wand is huge and reminded me of Dior’s Diorshow large wand – I said that before the associate did, but she said that’s a huge selling point for people.
Three: $14 USD is pretty awesome for a mascara that works just as well as Dior’s $28.
Four: The tube is huge compared to the other containers of mascara MAC sells, giving you the ultimate bang for your buck.

When I got home and used it this is what I discovered:

One: The wand really is comparable to the Dior Diorshow mascara wand
Two: My lashes appear longer and have much more volume to them than with other mascara’s I’ve used in the past
Three: When I remove the mascara, it comes off easily – I don’t wake up the next day and look like I have a black eye even though I used makeup remover wipes and face cleanser on my eyes & face.
Four: This stuff stays in place throughout the course of the day. Sometimes my mascara ends up underneath my lower lashes but not with this mascara – at least not yet anyway (and the temperatures have been very close to the 100 F mark recently).

So at the moment, this is my new love. I have put aside all my other mascara’s to pay special attention to this one. It seems that many have a love – hate relationship when it comes to mascara’s. Right now, I am happy. Are you going to try this product or do you have it already? Let me know your favorite mascara or weigh in on your opinions for this one in the comments below.

Revlon Lashes

The Easiest Lashes to Apply…

When you think of false lashes, Revlon may not be the brand that comes to mind. For most people they think of Ardell, or ELF, or MUFE, or…or…or…

For a very reasonable price, you can try on lashes that are non-irritating on the eyes and very durable. Not only can you choose between a variety of shapes, volumes, and lengths, you can choose whether or not you want to use glue.

No glue? Then how does it stick?

There are a few lashes that are being offered as self-adhesive, which means they are latex-free for you allergy sufferers. They are so sticky, I was able to even reapply my lashes after I removed them. If you prefer the glue to the self-adhesive stickies that come attached to the eyelash container, you won’t be disappointed. Generally I use the DUO eyelash glue, even when the eyelashes come with glue. However, I wanted to try the product in its entirety to give a truly fair review. In terms of lash glue, I will admit, I like my DUO lash better. I like it better than the lash glue that comes with the Ardell lashes as well. I didn’t at first, but now I am used to it. The glue did what it was supposed to do and kept the lashes attached.

Overall, I think these lashes are amazing. The variety alone makes them a keeper, and when you consider the price and the fact that if you handle them properly you get more than one use out of them, Revlon has found themselves a good product.

Purple Sunset

So I was looking for a new background for my desktop and I came across this picture. Isn’t it gorgeous? Don’t you just love it when you go from being completely unmotivated, to seeing gorgeous makeup looks in everything?

Maybe it’s just me, but since I started doing this YouTube makeup gig, I catch myself staring at people’s lids.

Take for instance, my husband…he has gorgeous eyes, and if I ever thought I would get away with it, I would totally give him a makeover! Of course I can’t get away with it, so that’s the end of that conversation!

Sephora’s Mystical Blues

I don’t know why Sephora sends me these catalogs other than to torture me! I did thumb through it and stopped short of the first couple pages because I loved the drama this look created. I don’t think I do “recreations” very well, but I still loved how it looked. I loved it so much, I decided to pull out what I had and gave it a try.

I had to change up everything Sephora recommended you use, simply because I don’t own it, and I have no intentions of buying it anytime soon.
